The Pneumatic Release Timer (PRT) is a simple and reliable mechanical loop release timer. It does not use oil, is reusable, and it is ripcord activated.
The PRT was originally designed to replace pyro de-reefers in small cargo canopies, and the USDA Forest Service Smoke Jumpers has experimented with using the PRT to delay canopy opening on their equipment bundles. The PRT has also been used to release 3-rings during drop testing.
The PRT is activated when the rip cord is extracted, then the pin will slowly retract into the timer body, and at the present time, the loop will be released.
No special tools are needed to reset the PRT for another use. Although the PRT release time is not field adjustable, they can be set for virtually any length of time, of 2 seconds, 6 seconds and 30 seconds have been popular times. Any PRT can be sent in to have the time changed.
Relative timing accuracy is + – .2 seconds, however they tend to be very accurate, often in the range of .02 seconds.
The PRT can be scaled to meet application requirements and is water tolerant (not water proof) as it is made from Aluminum, Stainless Steel, and Nylon materials. Useable temperature range is from -20 F to +200 F. The PRT may be a good option when looking at smaller pyro de-reefing devices or timed 3-ring release cutters.

PNEUMATIC RELEASE TIMER
Pneumatic Release Timer, (PRT), is a reusable, factory preset, mechanical timer that is designed to release cargo parachutes and replace timed pyrotechnic cutters.
PARACHUTE FLIGHT DATA RECORDER
Built under contract for the U.S.D.A. Forest Service Smoke Jumpers, the Free Fall Accessories, Inc. Parachute Flight Data Recorder, (PFDR), was designed to measure and record all aspects of descent while under a round or square canopy.
SMALL INSERTION BUNDLE
The Free Fall Accessories, Inc. Small Insertion Bundle System, (SIBS), was developed to provide a means to insert small equipment and survival gear into remote areas, quickly, reliability, and cost effectively. The SIBS can be easily clipped to a load, and static lined from a small aircraft, with little training required.
