This system had a reserve parachute and required an AAD that could detect a parachute malfunction and execute emergency procedures. Way ahead of its time, the ADAPT offered features not found in one singular AAD.
Consisting of 8 firing circuits that could be individually programmed to fire based on Altitude, Time, Event, Time from Altitude, and Time from Event, as well as Malfunction Detection and Emergency Procedure Execution, the ADAPT offered the coordinated control of multiple actions by a singular device.
One of the unique aspects of the ADAPT was its Situational Awareness Logic which allows it to determine if it is inside an aircraft, or has exited and cleared the aircraft without any reference to the aircraft or the ground.
This Situational Awareness logic prevents in aircraft activation, and it is this same logic that is currently being used with our Static Line AAD; it allows our AAD's to operate independently from any other device, unlike many other AAD's for that application, that use RF or a mechanical tether to reference the aircraft.
Although the ADAPT received a lot of positive attention, the field was not yet ready for its capability. Subsequently it has been used as a source of technology as many aspects of it have been taken and applied to other specific applications.
Modern technology has advanced quite a bit since we built the proof of concept. Smaller more compact designs can now be manufactured that were not possible at the time.
The ADAPT has demonstrated our ability to conceive innovative solutions and execute them in practice.
The legacy of the ADPAT will live on and evolve as we continue to apply the advanced capability of the ADAPT to specific applications such as Static Line and Free Fall Personal AADs.
AIR DROP AUTOMATIC PARACHUTE TRIGGER
The ADAPT is the most innovative and intelligent automatic activation device ever conceived. A need for a new, flexible automatic parachute opener was identified thus the ADAPT Project was born.
PARACHUTE FLIGHT DATA RECORDER
Built under contract for the U.S.D.A. Forest Service Smoke Jumpers, the Free Fall Accessories, Inc. Parachute Flight Data Recorder, (PFDR), was designed to measure and record all aspects of descent while under a round or square canopy.
SMALL INSERTION BUNDLE
The Free Fall Accessories, Inc. Small Insertion Bundle System, (SIBS), was developed to provide a means to insert small equipment and survival gear into remote areas, quickly, reliability, and cost effectively. The SIBS can be easily clipped to a load, and static lined from a small aircraft, with little training required.
